Exploring the Prime Directive

The Prime Directive in Practice: A Short Class

After a brief introduction to the Prime Directive, we will explore how to apply it in various situations and projects - real or imagined - offered up by participants. For each example, we’ll consider what “the whole” might be, its potential for wisdom and resourcefulness, and how these might be evoked and engaged - both ideally and practically - for its benefit and the benefit of other wholes that might be involved. We’ll seek to enhance participants’ capacity to look at situations and projects through the lens of the prime directive and to start using it to make a positive difference. Limited to 16 participants.

To accommodate people in different time zones, Tom is offering this session twice.

An Open Exploration
What might the prime directive teach us about power?

We’ll consider power as the ability to influence or to get things done. It plays out in problematic ways in social systems, cultures, group and organizational dynamics, change efforts, human relationships, interactions with non-human beings and systems, our relationship with ourselves, and more. How does the prime directive differ from top-down and bottom-up and even various peer manifestations of power? How might we use it to help the transitions currently challenging us and our civilization? What more can we learn about the relationship between the prime directive and power? This will be an open, free-wheeling inquiry limited to 12 people for whom such questions are of passionate interest. We’ll see what comes up.

To accommodate people in different time zones, Tom is offering this session twice. Group size is limited to 12 people.
